"If Sarah Palin isn't enough of a reason for you to get over whatever your problem is with Barack Obama, then you damn well had better pay attention," Rep. Alcee Hastings of Florida said at a panel about the shared agenda of Jewish and African-American Democrats Wednesday. Hastings, who is African-American, was explaining what he intended to tell his Jewish constituents about the presidential race. "Anybody toting guns and stripping moose don't care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks. So, you just think this through," Hastings added as the room erupted in laughter and applause.
Seems like a telling phrase: "...whatever your problem is with Barack Obama..." sounds like a confession that plenty of Jews are indeed having a problem with Barack Obama, but whatever you do don't talk about those problems and learn to toe the party line. The CNN piece then goes on to insult Jewish intellect by claiming that Jews are being fooled into believing that Obama is Muslim. Perhaps the reason is that Obama's position on Israel is undermined by his affiliations and difficulty in taking a firm stand on Israel.
This patronizing attitude towards Jewish voters where Palin is ridiculed for her culture will backfire the same way Obama's remarks about religious voters did. Does anyone believe the old KKK canard will work against Palin?
