Fouad Ajami pens another remarkable piece in the Wall Street Journal last week. It is worth the read for those interested in the nature of the global conflict between Islamists and the rest of the world.
Even as they mourned their loss, the Jordanians could not see or acknowledge the darkness with which they viewed the world around them. "Zionist terror in Palestine = American terror in Iraq = Terror in Amman," read a banner held aloft by the leaders of the Engineers' Syndicate of Jordan who had come together to protest the hotel bombings.
In a nutshell one of the foremost Arab intellects bluntly states that Arabs can not or will not admit that the terrorism that attacks Israelis and Americans is the same terrorism that attacks Jordan. Jordan comes across as a nation of brutes ruled by enlightened rulers they don't deserve. Sadly even too many Americans have fallen victim to the same denials. Terrorism isn't caused by poverty or religion or globalization, it is caused by those who will stop at nothing to grab power and a base of ignorant supporters. It is a shame that the Left has provided such fertile soil for such a deadly germ*.
Update:
* Keith Thompson seems to have found a reason for this.

Thanks, Dan - good reads!
Now I also have read that scientists are showing that courage is genetic as well.
