I am amazed at the lack of celebration in the U.S. over the execution of Saddam Hussein. The Iraqis are celebrating as Sheik Sadralddin al-Qubanji said:
Oh, God, you know what Saddam has done! He killed millions of Iraqis in prisons, in wars with neighboring countries and he is responsible for mass graves. Oh God, we ask you to take revenge on Saddam.
Saddam was a real and serious enemy of America (among his nefarious deeds was the attempt to assassinate former President Bush) and of course he was one of Israel's greatest threats (his million many standing army was perhaps the greatest threat to the State of Israel, but his financing and support of terrorism was not only criminal but contributed to global instability).
Some mourn his death (Palestinians, Vatican and liberal groups) which presumably happened upon the death of Haman as well... yet Americans and Jews around the world should rejoice as the many American Arabs in Dearborn did when Saddam's execution was announced - I propose that Purim II should be declared and celebrated since this was an equally great deliverance that benefits the world.
I can't celebrate anyone's death no matter how "justified".
