Quick stats

They have been fawning all over the airwaves about the inauguration. For all of this massive news coverage one might think that all eyes and hearts were with and on Obama.

Here are some statistics which paint a different picture:

Percentage of American residents voting for Obama: 23% [69M / 305M]
Percentage of eligible voters who voted for Obama: 32% [ 69M / 213M]
Percentage of people who couldn't be bothered to vote for anyone: 38% [82M / 213M]

If this were a purely democratic election based on popular vote then the winner was:

None of the Above
